Fatherland Security

I went out and bought an Almanac the other day.  In fact, I bought one for every member of my family.  I took a yellow highlighter and marked all the dams in Nevada and California.  Then I yellowed (is that a word?) populations in the large metropolitan areas in Nevada, California and Oregon.  I carry my copy in my car.

I went to the public library and checked out a history of the Middle East (Ottoman Empire stuff), a book on explosives and one on poisons through the ages.

I web searched for several Middle Eastern newspapers, peacenik web sites and read Hackworth and Veterans for Peace web sites.

I contributed to Moveon.org and voted for what I thought were the best “Bush in 30 seconds” videos.

I refuse to fly because I refuse to give up my social security number to get on an airplane.  I don’t feel safer flying just because they know how I make a living, how much money I have in the bank and what my mother’s maiden name is.

I reread the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and wept.

The end of privacy in America is the result of an apathetic Congress and federal agencies drunken mad with lust for unbridled power, which they are passing off to corporations. The illicit use of perfectly legitimate technology by our government against all citizens is demonstrating the truth of Lord Acton's prophetic warning that while power corrupts - absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I’m waiting for the SS from the Fatherland Security agency to come pick me up.  What with my partner out of work and me just scraping by, I’d be happy for 3 hots and a cot right now.
